Minecraft Preview: Everything You Need to Know (2022)
We have broken down the details about Minecraft Preview in separate sections. So use the table below to explore the ones that interest you the most at your convenience.
What is Minecraft Preview?
Minecraft Preview is a new standalone app that allows players to test out the beta versions of the Bedrock edition without replacing the original game. Unlike previous beta versions, the preview app won’t overtake the already installed version of the game on your devices. It will work as a separate entity, allowing you to have both regular and beta versions of Minecraft installed at the same time.
The app’s presence doesn’t affect Minecraft and its existing worlds that are on your device. So, in a way, it’s an upgrade to the existing beta program that Minecraft runs exclusively for Xbox, Windows, and Java Edition users.
Minecraft Preview: Release Date
Minecraft Preview is still in its testing phase, and only iOS users can access it in February 2022. But we expect the preview to reach other platforms in the upcoming weeks. Later on, the app is supposed to reach all the platforms that support the Minecraft Bedrock Edition. We don’t have a release date yet, but Minecraft Preview is sure to be released later in 2022. Developers have also confirmed that it will be available for Xbox Game Pass users and in the Minecraft launcher alongside the full release.
Minecraft Preview: Supported Platforms
As of February 2022, the developers have announced that Minecraft Preview will be supported on iOS, iPad OS, and Windows 10 & 11 platforms to start with. Though the beta program is already full, iOS users can even keep an eye out for more spots and use this Testflight link to sign up for upcoming beta releases. Moreover, the Preview app will reach other platforms that support the Bedrock edition later this year.
How Is Minecraft Preview Different from Betas?
Generally, Minecraft’s beta versions replace the existing installed version of the game, as you can see in our detailed guide on how to get the Minecraft 1.19 beta right now. But, the introduction of Minecraft Preview allows you to keep your existing worlds separate without causing any harm to them. In every way, the new beta version works as a separate clone of Minecraft that has unreleased features of the game.
Additionally, having a separate app will make it easier for users to test upcoming features easily. So, if you have tried signing up to test out Minecraft 1.19 features, you might be aware of the bugs and tiresome experience it can create.
What Will Happen to Minecraft Beta
Even though the Minecraft Preview app is supposed to replace the beta program, the betas are not going anywhere anytime soon. Not to forget, this app only targets the Bedrock edition of the game. So, Minecraft Java players will continue getting snapshots even after the full release of this app.
